Women and girls had to put up with unbelievable suffering from the hands of islamists of the Islamic state. They were raped, forced to change their religion, their men were murdered and many of them lost their children. Each of these women will carry some aftermaths of this, either mental of physical or both, for the rest of their lives. The Kurds managed to free more women, girls and children from the IS captivity, in total 50 of them. They were brought in from Raqqa, Syria.
I was there when they were brought to a safe location near Shingal called Sherfadin. I am not sure what it feels like to be free again after what they’ve been through – but I do know that they need our help.
